چکیده

Land use and land cover (LULC) change is a common trend in all parts of the globe. The possible reasons might be economic, political, social or cultural motives. In Ethiopia, most rural urban people are highly dependent on eucalypts for various purposes, particularly, fuel wood construction materials. study area, Western Gurage Watersheds Omo-Gibe Basin, eucalypt plantations have become emergent dominant activity next to growing Enset. specific objectives this were assess changes driven by over time agro-ecological extent, identify socio-economic, demographic, environmental factors that facilitated expansion plantation. Landsat images from 1987 (TM), 2001 (ETM) 2017 (Landsat 8 OLI) used detecting LULC changes. Digital image processing operations, i.e. haze removal, geo-referencing, contrast enhancement classification, completed using ERDAS Imagine 2011 Software. During period between 2017, area types, namely plantation forest, Enset-based agroforestry, cereal crop built-up areas increased watersheds at expenses natural forests grassland. total forest declined 1987-2000 and, then, 2001-2017 as result bare land, grazing types. drivers population growth, ‘Meskel’ ‘Arafah’ celebrations, degradation conservation, road development, access markets, economic factors, such need wood, materials, money. divergent interest stakeholders, skepticism debate around presented; call further scientific investigations management options recommended.

Evaluation of land use/land cover changes in Mekelle City, Ethiopia using Remote Sensing and GIS

Land use is a dynamic phenomenon that changes with time and space due to anthropogenic pressure and development. Evaluating the existing land use and its periodic change is useful for urban planners, policy makers and natural resource managers. Land use and land cover changes in Mekelle City, Ethiopia (north east Africa) over a period of 25 years was studied using remotely sensed data. Multi te...

Land use and land cover spatiotemporal dynamic pattern and predicting changes using integrated CA-Markov model

Analyzing the process of land use and cover changes during long periods of time and predicting the future changes is highly important and useful for the land use managers. In this study, the land use maps in the Ardabil plain in north-west part of Iran for four periods (1989, 1998, 2009 and 2013) are extracted and analyzed through remote sensing technique, using the land-sat satellite images. T...

Detection of Land-use and Land Cover Changes

Florida Panhandle region has been experiencing rapid land transformation in the recent decades. To quantify land use and land-cover (LULC) changes and other landscape changes in this area, three counties including Franklin, Liberty and Gulf were taken as a case study and an unsupervised classification approach implemented to Landsat TM images acquired from 1985 to 2005 provided a time-series of...

Impact of land-use and land-cover changes on temperature trends over Western India

We study the regional variation of temperature trends (warming or cooling) over Western India and the contribution of land-use and land-cover (LULC) changes towards this warming or cooling based on temperature datasets of 37 years (1973–2009). The contribution of LULC to the warming or cooling is estimated based on deviation in temperature in the observation and reanalysis datasets. The observe...
